The Sound of Music can be held responsible for my foray into the world of lifestyle blogging. “These are a few of my favourite things…” if there are few fleeting souls in this world who are curious enough to know.
I have always been fascinated with stories-the stories of fictional characters from faraway lands and the stories of equally intriguing living and breathing people who have come through experiences with wisdom, hope, joy and humour. I credit this love of stories largely to my Italian family–specifically my grandparents (i miei nonni). Countless hours have been and will be spent sitting around a raucous kitchen table with the clinking of espresso cups and spoons, wild gesticulating arms, raised voices expressing mirth and incredulity over whatever creative narrative is being told for the hundredth time, but being wildly spun with newfound recollections (ha!) and embellishments. I could listen to my grandparents tell the same story dozens of times and always find something new to laugh or wonder at. No two tellings are ever the same; each is as original as the personality sharing it. And don’t get them started when they were all present for the same event! Oh the fine tales they weave and how the simplest of events can be romanticized into an epic tale that will endure generations.
Without inspiration stories can not flourish. I love finding inspiration in minute details and fleeting moments, mundane tasks and whispered words, grand gestures and sweeping visuals, authentic relationships and enduring friendships. But the one source of constant inspiration that reveals new hope, joy and comfort to me every time is God’s Word. It sustains me and renews my spirit.
So to bring it back full circle: why do I blog? I blog because stories and inspiration lose their power and poignancy unless they are shared.
