About the Book
In a clash of light and darkness, the tenacity of love is illuminated.
When Trevor MacDaniel, a high country outfitter, rescues a toddler from the jaws of a mountain lion, he can’t foresee the far-reaching consequences of his action, how it will entwine his life with gifted sculptor, Natalie Reeve—and attract a grim admirer.
Trevor’s need to guard and protect is born of tragedy, prompting his decision to become a search and rescue volunteer. Natalie’s gift of sculpting comes from an unusual disability that seeks release through her creative hands. In each other they see strength and courage as they face an incomprehensible foe.
Drawn by the heroic story of the child’s rescue, a twisted soul sees Trevor as archangel and adversary, and threatens their peaceful mountain community—testing Trevor’s limits by targeting their most helpless and innocent.
Poetically haunting and excruciatingly beautiful, this psychological thriller will have you perched on the edge of your seat.
Kristen has created a cast of damaged characters who are living out ironic contrasts: a woman with a gift to capture a person’s soul but is tormented by what she sees; a man with the will to save but risks losing everything; and another who seeks to correct evil through terror. That is just a sampling of the intriguing host of characters that leaps off the pages. This book is a treat for reader’s who love to study characters and delve in to their innermost beings. Each character has found a way to survive their dysfunctional pasts by turning their quirks, failings, idiosyncrasies, and limitations into gifts that are unique to each of them.
The integration of excerpts from Paradise Lost preceding sections told from the antagonists point of view magnified the complexity of that character. Kristen’s prose will give you goosebumps in one paragraph and move you to tears in the next. She manipulates readers’ emotions by painting vistas of words that draw us deep into the character’s heart and psyche without a map showing where it will take us and what lies ahead.
This is a must-read psychological thriller/romantic suspense! I must go back and read the prequel Indivisible, which I some how missed.
