My family likes to joke that I have organizational OCD. Everything I own has to be clean, colour coded, alphabetized, categorized, yada yada yada. I claim there is a reason to my madness: so that I don’t go mad.
This chronic need to organize everything has spilled over into my reading life. Does anybody else keep a “To-Be-Read” book list? I have for as long as I can remember. And no, not a sheet that I scribble interesting titles on, but I fully organized and alphabetized spreadsheet…with order statuses and release dates…and colour coded columns. Um, is there such thing as Obsessive Organizers Anonymous? Or not so anonymous anymore.
And since I have already cracked the closet door on my obsessive secrets and the first step is admitting you have a problem, let the confessions continue! I also have a reading list, but I do cheat on it occasionally. I have my ultra-organized bookshelves, but I like to keep new books on a separate shelf and stacked in the order that I want to read/review them. Sometimes I shuffle the books around, add new ones, or start a new purchase as soon I get it home. See! I can be flexible. *cough*
My question of the day is: How do you keep track of books that you would like to read? Are you a spontaneous, browse the shelves book shopper or do you go in to a bookstore with a mission?
